We all need to innovate because if we stand still, we will lose
our competitive edge.
The good news is that everyone can innovate in the right environment,
with the
right techniques and the right framework. The hard part is to make it happen
across your organisation. We think there are two parts to innovation:
- Getting the "spark of innovation" - the individuals and teams that
come up with the idea
- Implementing the innovation - turning the idea into something
practical and usable
Together these two parts form "a habit of innovating".
Many books and business models prescribe a "definitive" model for
innovating, we do not.
We keep an open mind on this because we do not believe that everyone
innovates in the same way. What works for
you
may not
be right
for
me - "hot
groups!", "mind
maps!" may be great for some, but can be the wrong choice for
others and actually stifles innovation.
We feel that the "one
size fits all" or "sheep dip" approach that is commonly
deployed in many organisations to enable "innovating" can
be self-defeating. We are all individuals and we innovate in different
ways.
We therefore think it is important to identify how individuals in your team
achieve their personal successes first. Once we know how people come up "with
the goods" we can then help you create the most effective environment for these
ideas to be turned into reality.
We also help you address the institutional barriers and individual
resistance like:
"That's not how we do things here",
" What's in it for me?",
" It'll never work.", or
" We can't afford it."
All these are commonly heard and all these are innovation killers.
We therefore pay particular attention to:
- environments that stimulate creativity both individually and as
a group
- ways to reward innovations to overcome resistance
- building innovation into an everyday habit
Build the best practice habits for a sustainable business.
