Return

Project SusD is a sector-wide initiative to build Sustainable Development Partnerships on construction sites. The project team is led by Greenfile Developments and the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) together with the following partners:

Project SusD is part-funded by the UK's Department of Trade and Industry's Partnerships at Work Fund.

The aims of the project are:

  1. Reduce waste and costs in construction site activities through Sustainable Development Partnerships
  2. Develop a partnership framework to realise the benefits of cost saving projects and lifelong learning
  3. Encourage new entrants into construction through developing transferable and desirable skills in Sustainable Development
  4. Encourage the dissemination of sustainable development partnerships through the sharing of knowledge

The project will address partnerships through the three perspectives of sustainable development in a balanced manner:

Economic Partnerships to enable:

  • Cost Savings through joint problem solving and innovations
  • Improved quality and efficiency
  • More effective communications

Social Partnerships to provide:

  • A framework of qualifications, awards and lifelong learning
  • Inclusion of the low-skilled through training and career development on sustainable development skills
  • A more pleasant working environment on construction sites

SusD partnership cycle

Environmental Partnerships to:

  • Reduce environmental impacts through reducing wastes
  • Encourage construction team members to take personal responsibility for reducing waste
  • Embed the link between waste on sites with Sustainable Development
Waste Reduction

The Pilot Programme starts in September 2004 for 12 months, and this will include:
